The Documentary Filmmakers’ Association is pleased to announce that the DocLOVE inititiave will re-ignite in October 2018, with Cape Town based screenings of NOT IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD. Other films in our future line-up include MAMA AFRICA to commemorate the passing of Miriam Makeba in November and the newly released SOMEONE TO BLAME, by Enver Samuel about the search for truth in the Ahmed Timol Inquest.
Our screenings will be followed by a discussion and the opportunity to meet other filmmakers.
NOT IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD
Cape Town is no stranger to the effects of gentrification. Every single week the City’s magistrate court hears cases of eviction, many of them related to prospective high – end developments.
Not in My Neighbourhood, by award-winning filmmaker, Kurt Orderson, offers an insightful look into the lives of those who are struggling against the atrocities of Gentrification, Urban Renewal, Architectural Apartheid and Spatial Violence. He cohesively facilitates an international dialogue by exploring the parallels of the current urban environments in three seemingly disparate cities: São Paulo, Cape Town, and New York.
Not In My Neighbourhood portrays an “on the ground” approach, which evokes poignantly beautiful personal sentiments that are effortlessly juxtaposed with the courageous ability of the ordinary citizen mobilizing for their right to the city.
Kurt Orderson is an award winning independent filmmaker from Cape Town, South Africa. Orderson started his career after completing his film and television studies at Monash University, South Africa. Kurt has directed and produced multiple documentaries that have screened at international film festivals and on various broadcasts outlets. He is the founder and director of Azania Rizing, a production company that aims to inspire young people through creative storytelling about Africa and the African Diaspora.
