Tell us about yourself – who are you and what do you do?
My name is Sandiswa Tshefu, a filmmaker based in Cape Town but born and bred in King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape. I’ve been in the film industry as early as 2012, and completed a film course at UCT’s Film and Media Faculty. I freelance as an edit assistant and offline editor in Cape Town.
What are you currently up to? Are there any exciting projects ongoing?
Since UCT I’ve worked on both local and international feature film, documentaries and television. I am a former Board member of the DFA and proudly one of docLOVE’s Facilitators in Khayelitsha for the last 3 to 4 years where we have built an enthusiastic audience of regular audience members for documentary films.
What’s your best project/work to date?
My favourite project to have worked on is Five Finger’s for Marseilles as a 1st and only Assistant Editor to the amazing Video Editor Dan Mitchells who left S.A about a year ago.
Who or what inspires you?
I’ve been inspired by a lot of people in my career, people like Miki Redelinghuys and Dr. Liani Maasdorp who have never stopped believing and supporting me in my growth in the Industry.
Finally, what tips or advice could you give to other documentary creatives, just starting out or to the most experienced creatives needing a bit of encouragement?
The best advice I could give to aspiring filmmakers and even experienced Filmmakers is to always be human first and master your craft… til you make that million to make your dream film!
