Welcome new member and highly experienced DOP Eugene to the DFA!

Tell us about yourself – who are you and what do you do?
I am Eugene Bogatov, a new to Cape Town documentary cinematographer originally  from Russia and now happily in SA. I am a three times Arctic expedition participant as a director and DP for various documentaries.

What are you currently up to? Are there any exciting projects ongoing?
I used to work for Red Bull for many years, covering many action sports including the longest bicycle race in the world Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme Moscow – Vladivostok but I just finished filming a reality show in Cape Town and now I’m currently free and open to any offers.

What’s your best project/work to date?
The last project I’ve made as a DOP was a fascinating 8 part documentary TV-series about the modern types of fraud called Moshennarium. The Encyclopedia of Deception. But definitely my

Definitely the biggest personal project and my own achievement was a feature-length documentary The Riveriners about the people that lives on the banks of the Russian rivers and can’t imagine their lives without it. It was filmed over 1.5 year and followed the rivers from source to mouth.

Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by sincere human stories and the fact that the fate writes the script itself, it is important to not miss the moment and capture it on camera.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
When I’m not working (as I’m doing now) I like to go hiking and meet with friends. So I’ll be glad to meet with new ones from here, just let me know 🙂

Finally, what tips or advice could you give to other documentary creatives, just starting out or to the most experienced creatives needing a bit of encouragement?
Hey, beginners! The fate writes the script itself, it is important to not miss the moment and capture it on camera.
