2022 dok.incubator International Workshop Deadline

26th January 2022 @ 08:00 - 17:00

dok.incubator invites editors, directors and producers to a six–month long workshop, focused on filmmakers’ professional development and giving you access to top internationally-experienced tutors. There are many good films, but only a few of them become excellent. What makes the difference? dok.incubator, an international documentary rough-cut workshop, provides six-months of individual tutoring by top internationally-active editors, producers and distributors:

sharpen the final cut
emphasize the film’s international potential
prepare an innovative marketing strategy
plan a sophisticated distribution strategy
break into the international market

Time, money, and a lot of energy. dok.incubator supports documentary projects in the rough-cut stage, willing to work hard – and fly high!

TIME:
For six months, the workshop inspires teams of eight selected films from all over the world, each represented by three team members (producer, director, editor). They will be working intensively in the editing room, building a clever, tailor-made distribution plan and marketing strategy, as well as meeting with important international distributors, sales agents and festival representatives.

The workshop is divided into three one-week residential sessions:

1st session: April – Czech Republic / rough cut
2nd session: June – Slovakia / fine cut
3rd session: September – Sweden / near picture lock

ENERGY: More than 20 experienced lecturers: producers, editors of award-winning films and creative PR and marketing experts will give you individual mentoring. Internationally-recognised tutors aim to inspire the participants to find their own way of telling the story – and how to sell it, afterwards.

The participating group is small, family-like. We strongly support each other and work together a lot. Your feedback, advice, and help is all welcome, just as your doubts, difficulties and questions. The group dedicated tutors and participants work very hard to step across the films´ limits.

MONEY: The participation at the workshop requires a great deal of effort from each member of the team. It is necessary to be united, to be ready for new, challenging tasks. In the end, three participant projects, which make the biggest progress, win a dok.incubator AWARD (audio and video post-production valued at € 1.500). To be able to offer more help where it is needed and less to well financed films, from year 2018 on, the participation fee will be flexible in the range 5,700 – 16,000 Euros depending on the situation of the project. This fee will be decided during the selection process by the selection board by taking into account the situation of the film and the producer. We will consider the budget of the film and the level of confirmed financing, as well as local funding possibilities in the countries of production. We always try to make our workshop accessible for low budget films, and be realistic about possibilities for producers, so most of our projects will not pay the full amount. Therefore dok.incubator makes it a priority to support films in difficult financial situations and encourages applicants to apply for a partial or full scholarship.

The submission deadline is January 26, 2022, more about the call can be found here.
