The DFA has been offered a shared office space at Bertha House  a space that has become a home to many of our events and programmes. The office share is offered on a principle of reciprocity where DFA will offer Bertha House participation in our programmes such as docLOVE and docSHARE and invite members to offer support where possible to Bertha House initiatives.

The DFA Board is excited to be a part of the vibrant activist, creative space that Bertha House is. We encourage our members to pop in at the Activist Cafe, keep an eye on the Bertha House programme of talks, events and exhibitions and of course join us there for our monthly docLOVE screening. On Wednesday 11 May we will screen the remarkable and award winning film, Once Upon a Time in Venezuela with guest speaker, Francesca  da Gasparis from SAFCEI. To celebrate our new shared home at Bertha House we will offer free wine and cheap popcorn this Wednesday. Please join us at 6pm and be a part of the conversation.

Our Programme Officer Lameze Allie adds: “Since hosting DocLOVE at the Bertha House monthly, I have been utilizing the space for DocCONNECT sessions with DFA members. I feel really lucky to be a part of such an amazing network of creatives and activists. who share similar core values.Bertha House is so much more than your average co-working space, from the moment you walk through the door you really feel a strong sense of inclusivity and acceptance. Many of the organisations who utilise the space are trailblazers in their field of work and being exposed to this encourages and inspires me to want to do more. There’s always a hive of activity and an opportunity of seeing a familiar face and also of meeting new people”.

Bertha House focusses on 3 strategic priorities in the social justice space, which is narrative justice, spatial justice and food justice. The DFA has a network of storytellers and people with variety of competencies in service of setting new narratives. “It makes sense to have DFA in the space, to do the work they do, but also to share some of their competecies with other actors in the social justice space. We also recognise that creative producers can themselves be activists, so it makes sense for networks like DFA to be part of Bertha House Space,” says Ncedisa Nkonyeni, DIrector of Bertha House
