Hashtag our Stories (HOS) is building the world’s most immersive storytelling company. They’ve got 3.2M subscribers aged 13-24 watching their social media shows and using our augmented reality toolkits to share their stories and reached a billion views in 2021. The 9 shows profile the perspective of people creating positive change in mental health, sex ed, the environment, and more and are stories captured by citizens using their phones and curated by HOS journalists.  Their augmented reality (AR) tools guide citizen storytellers with shot lists, interview questions, and more.

HOS are creating a more empathetic and inclusive world where diverse communities are empowered to share their lived experiences, and audiences are immersed in their stories with AR. Now they are launching a new show, Our Africa using their hallmark first-person narrative approachto profile African stories for a global audience.

HOS are looking for a Producer with a passion for storytelling.

The Producer will be driving the project from the earliest stages of pitching and development to final publishing. The Producer will work closely with the Managing Producer and other team members to create compelling and innovative episodes for the show.

Responsibilities:

  • Researching, sourcing and pitching stories
  • Interviewing and/or pre-interviewing sources (all done remotely)
  • Writing scripts, including edits, sub-edits, and preparing headlines
  • Fact checking
  • Distributing content on social media/digital platforms
  • Creating and maintaining production spreadsheets including productionschedules, delivery dates, publishing dates, and other key milestones
  • Keeping source materials and production resources organized and updated
  • Providing creative and editorial input throughout the production process
  • Working with clients from NGOs to corporates

Skills and requirements:

  • 4 or more years media/journalistic experience, and/or experience in digital publishing
  • Journalism or media studies degree, or similar tertiary-level qualification(preferred, not essential)
  • A passion for storytelling and a portfolio of work to show us that
  • An understanding of current political issues and global trends
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Highest standards for journalistic integrity and ethics
  • An understanding of AR tools and their capabilities
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
  • The ability to work remotely, across a geographically-dispersed team
  • Experience in media training (preferred, not essential)
  • Multi-lingual (preferred, not essential)

HOS are looking for a Video Editor with a passion for storytelling. The Video Editor will work closely with a team of producers to create compelling and innovative episodes for the show.

Responsibilities:

  • Editing personal, documentary-style videos using material shot primarily by sources on their mobile phones
  • Building a compelling story using interview footage as well as b-roll, titles,graphics and animation
  • Creating dynamic content using an editing style that resonates with a young audience
  • Working collaboratively with the Managing Producer, Producer and other team members throughout the editing and approval process

Skills and requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro and Audition
  • In-depth knowledge of story structure and how to create a story that makes theaudience feel like the subject is speaking directly to them
  • Experience with 360 degree video and other new forms of storytelling (preferred,not essential)
  • Experience editing for emerging platforms like Tik Tok, Instagram and Snapchat (preferred, not essential)
  • An understanding of current political issues and global trends
  • An understanding of the latest editing trends and tech
  • An understanding of social media specific formats and optimizing for various platforms
  • An understanding of the HOS brand
  • A desire to experiment with innovative editing styles and transitions
  • The ability to maintain organized project files and materials
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
  • The ability to work remotely, as part of a geographically-dispersed team
  • No degree required but a passion for storytelling and a portfolio of work to show us that
