docSHARE 1: Development… the start of a documentary

Join DocFilmSA for the first session in our docSHARE webinar programme. docSHARE is an initiative of the Documentary Filmmakers Association of South Africa to create opportunities for experienced film professionals to share their knowledge and engage with the work and concerns of our existing and prospective members. We will offer five virtual docSHARE webinar sessions during the first quarter of 2023, that will be open to the public. We will also be offering a support network for 10 Tier 3 filmmakers who want to apply for their first NFVF development funding where they access the docSHARE public sessions in addition to bespoke mentorship. The docSHARE programme is powered by the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP3) administered by the NFVF.

Development… the start of a documentary + Q&A

Guest Speaker: Thandi Davids
Thurs 16 Feb 2023 at 4-5pm via Zoom

Session content & focus: The session will explore what your first steps should be and what you should be thinking about when you have had a great idea for a documentary and now need to begin the long journey of actually making the film. From initial story development, competitor analysis and rights protection, to considering how you’ll fund the project, how do you determine what tasks lie ahead of you and in what order they should be pursued? We examine the key ingredients in a pitch deck at the development stage and what success indicators a funder or project partner may be looking for.
