Tell us about yourself – who are you and what do you do?
I am Zwelibanzi Tshabalala from Orange Farm Township, I’m a filmmaker and a self-taught portrait photographer.
What are you currently up to? Are there any exciting projects ongoing?
I’m working on a documentary Ga Khunwana Ma Loba, a biography that seeks to understand how civilization has affected the way of doing things in our African cultures and if the remaining elderly people would pass who will help carry the roots and doings of traditions.
For Ga Khunwana Ma Loba we are looking for consultant producers to help us structure the film more better and how to go about in terms of funding wise and distribution.
What’s your best project/work to date?
School Shut Down, a project I worked on during covid19 focusing on matriculates that were affected the way they heard to study and accesses education during COVID-19. School Shut Down is available on the AfriDocs platform.
Who or what inspires you?
I get inspiration from nature as I draw wisdom and be able to free my spirit.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I do farming as I find it therapeutic and it helps me connect more with nature finding peace when I have issues to deal with.
Finally, what tips or advice could you give to other documentary creatives, just starting out or to the most experienced creatives needing a bit of encouragement?
Patience is the mother of success, the motor I believe in. So my advice is that, wait for your time towards your big break as we all get a chance in life.
