Tell us about yourself – who are you and what do you do?

My name is Sandiswa Tshefu, I am a video editor and film trainer. I have worked on both international and local feature films, documentaries and television shows since 2013.

What are you currently up to? Are there any exciting projects ongoing?

I have also gained a lot of from activism and have been working/training activists fromSocial Justice Coalition for the last 3 years. I am now a Resident Filmmaker at Tshisimani Centre For Activist Education.

What’s your best project/work to date?

My best work thus far was working as an assistant editor on Five Fingers for Marseilles and Flatland.

Who or what inspires you?

What inspires me is the power film-making has, in bringing change and social awareness using a cellphone or a camera.

Finally, what tips or advice could you give to other documentary creatives, just starting out or to the most experienced creatives needing a bit of encouragement?

My advice to filmmakers out there is to find what you love and master it. Use filmmaking as a tool to bring social change, to share skills and mentor young girls wanting to make films and just continue telling stories the best way you know how. Master your craft!
