Tell us about yourself – who are you and what do you do?

Elelwani Netshifhire, an all-round filmmaker, passionate about telling stories of my people. I write, direct; am armed with technical skillsets, I do it all as the field demands of us. 

What are you currently up to? Are there any exciting projects ongoing?

I am currently working on a short series of creative documentaries about African women, love and politics, just a wholesome experience of their being. There’s a number of exciting projects I would love to see come to life in 2021, COVID-19 and all, there’s a room for us to rebuild and it is exciting.

What’s your best project/work to date?

This is a tough one, I feel that my best work is to be released soon but of what is available out there, it will have to be the Story Of A Baked Brownie. It is also a story I truly believe in.  Story Of A Baked Brownie is a film that explores what it means to be a black or darkskinned woman, through the stories of seven women embracing their true selves.The public has spoken and it has had a life of its own after winning the Best Short Documentary at American Golden Picture International Film Festival in 2019 and showing at the RapidLion- The South African International Film Festival, IAmAFRICA Short Film Competition and Fist Up Film Festival.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by people who are passionate about what they do, in any field. When you have the fire, you fuel mine too. 

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I love discovering new places, running, hiking, reading, you know, simple usual things. 

Finally, what tips or advice could you give to other documentary creatives, just starting out or to the most experienced creatives needing a bit of encouragement?

You’ve probably heard this many times, just go and create, If you wait for money, you will never complete anything, make it happen, we have the best technologies at our finger tips!
